How to Reduce the File Size of Images

Windows PCs and Laptops

Using Built-in Tools

1. Open the image in the Photos app.

2. Click on “Edit & Create” in the top menu.

3. Select “Resize” from the dropdown.

4. Choose a preset size or enter custom dimensions.

5. Click “Save a copy” to preserve the original.

Using PowerToys (Updated for 2025)

1. Install the latest PowerToys from the Microsoft Store.

2. Right-click on an image or multiple images in File Explorer.

3. Select “Resize with PowerToys” from the context menu.

4. Choose from preset sizes or enter custom dimensions.

5. Click “Resize” to save the compressed images.

Mac Computers

Using Preview

1. Open the image in Preview.

2. Go to Tools > Adjust Size.

3. Enter new dimensions or select a preset size.

4. Check “Scale proportionally” to maintain aspect ratio.

5. Click “OK” and save the resized image.

Using Quick Actions

1. Select the image in Finder.

2. Right-click and choose “Quick Actions” > “Resize Image”.

3. Select a preset size or enter custom dimensions.
